Description:

ABOUT US - Cycle Station is a Social Enterprise. We are run solely by volunteers and have no paid staff. Cycle Station currently operates at two sites including bike hire at Whitelee Windfarm and has a pop up shop unit and bike workshop at Kilmarnock Station Community Village. WHAT WE DO - We are dedicated to helping people overcome barriers towards cycling and active travel, whether it be improving confidence, accessibility, affordability or physical ability we work with a number of charities and community groups to make it happen regardless of the barriers! We focus on making our activities fun and are working hard to improve the lives and opportunities available within communities. We encourage and promote, health and well-being through volunteering and training opportunities from cycle mechanics to first aid, ride leader to active travel champions. HOW WE DO IT - Partnering - We work with a range of organisations from charities, community groups and local government to national bodies to promote active travel to the wider public. Bike Recycling – We are always looking for bike donations to refurbish before reselling the bikes straight back into communities. This makes cycling affordable to all and we encourage the bikes to be traded back in for a different bike or a larger size in the future. The recycling process not only reduces waste going to landfill, but allows us to recruit and train cycle mechanics to repair the bikes ready for resale. Bike donations can be made at our Kilmarnock and Whitelee sites during open hours. (We do not buy bikes from the general public). Events - We have participated in a number of events last year including locally organised events like the Irvine Valley Walking Festival (Walkfest), Whitelee Family Fun Day, Troon Cycling Festival and national events like Cycling UK’s Big Bike Revival campaign, we are always looking to increase the awareness of cycling and its benefits and would be keen to hear about any other events which are coming up. Social Enterprise - To make all of the above possible we undertake enterprising opportunities as a way to continuing to fund our work in the community. We sell new and refurbished bikes all at affordable prices and offer repairs and servicing as well as bike hire at all our sites or on a mobile basis. We also provide corporate rides and promote and support cycle tourism.
